Looking at a few different ways to do this, I settled on a chequer pattern for the scion's machine. These sorts of patterns are very time consuming to do (Well, to do neatly anyway!) There are a few different ways of doing things but I decided that I just don't have the time to meticulously paint each individual square.<br />

<br />
Searching Ebay for stencils, I came across nail art stencils. These stencils are general too large for small miniatures, but for vehicles and knights they seem to be a perfect size. The pack I chose was less than £2 and delivered quickly.<br />

<br />
The first job was to cut up the stencils and apply them to the armour panels in the area's I wanted the pattern, then just a case of masking off the other area's. This process took about 15 minutes in total (Although the stencils are very tacky and get stuck to fingers easily if you are not careful!).<br />

Once masked, it was a simple case of using a Chaos Black spray (Or whatever colour you choose).<br />

<br />
The last part is probably the most consuming, it took around 20 minutes, and that was to <u style="font-style: italic;">carefully</u> peel the stencil from the armour panel. As you can see, I didn't do a perfect job but the knights will be heavily weathered anyway so these should work to my benefit once everything is together.Bronislaw Czevakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13131576857246059881noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2904061055438535072.post-61540554891078076542018-04-01T23:22:00.000+01:002018-04-01T23:22:44.350+01:00Knight Questoris DetatchmentI decided that I wanted some heavy support for my Legion, rather than go for the usual big tanks, I decided to add some variety with some WAAC knights. I picked up two of the plastic knight kits from GW to start things off. I plan to add some FW knights later on.<br />
<br />
I took quite some time when deciding how to paint these two. Originally I had settled on House Malinax as I love the heraldry of the tri-tailed scorpion. Whilst waiting for the transfers to arrive however, I suffered a small case of fickleness and jumped ship to another house.<br />
<br />
I started thinking about titan legions and whether they would use retained knights. Apparently it turns out, this is quite common. I started looking for any legions which had affiliations with the Alpha Legion, I stumbled upon Legion Fureans. Now the background of this legion is awesome (I won't bore you with the details, but check the Wiki) - After looking at the iconography and seeing that FW also sell a Fureans transfer sheet, I was sold. I also love the original name, The Tiger Eye's.<br />
<br />
These guy's are currently a WIP, I will update on progress as they move forward.<br />

I built up and finished the Land Raider Achilles Alpha that I picked up in the new year. The kit was really straightforward to put together and I had no real fitment issues either, WIN!<br />

I love the look of the Achilles, it's a beast. Front end just means business and I see it being a bullet magnet on the table, good job it has the stats to match it's looks. I used the opportunity of some large flat surfaces to use a few more of the larger/more elaborate transfers on the FW sheet. I decided on a less is more approach again as I feel that too much would have ruined the militaristic/operator style I want to keep for this legion. I also realized that at the time of taking these pictures, I had forgotten the pintle mounted storm bolter. That has since been added to the tank.<br />

As it's a vehicle, I also used the opportunity to have another crack at oil/grunge washes and I also broke out the pigments and some AK to add a little extra flair. Hopefully the techniques were successful (In that I mean didn't ruin the used look I wanted)<br />

Either way, these were a very easy kit bash and I think they will do just fine for now, and I am sure they will mix in fine when I get the shiny new ones!<br />

<br />
The build was simple, the Calth cataphractii bodies with FW Alpha Legion shoulder pads and legion Volkite Charger Pistol hands. For the painting, I went with a very simple scheme to match the rest of the legion as I don't personally see much flourish with Alpha's. To me they are very operator in their nature, everything has a purpose and if not, it is useless to them. I only see the main characters as having any real embellishments.<br />

I will get back to Inq28 & Necromunda a little later this year but for now the focus is on The Alpha Legion.<br />
<br />
At the beginning of the year I joined in with Hobbyvice's 'Hobby Resolution 2018'. The premise for this is simple, set out your hobby goal(s) for the year in an effort to give yourself more direction and motivation. My main resolution is to get gaming in 30k.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbWIngZPuF7t4eSY9uYXZl0q8MhU_x7QkPlpWw6GYl7E-iO5gVIRsuY4fDBfauKZ2DJwgFGlGdtr2oRQljBOmujZOL8kkoGPjwS8ynoo4Zw-sAdHzwzJc6lU87lPs2z-Wr0-NjoQ88k7g/s1600/IMG_4507.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbWIngZPuF7t4eSY9uYXZl0q8MhU_x7QkPlpWw6GYl7E-iO5gVIRsuY4fDBfauKZ2DJwgFGlGdtr2oRQljBOmujZOL8kkoGPjwS8ynoo4Zw-sAdHzwzJc6lU87lPs2z-Wr0-NjoQ88k7g/s640/IMG_4507.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After completing quite a number of infantry, I decided to reward myself by getting Dynat painted up. I found this a very quick miniature to paint and absolutely loved the process. The sculpt is fantastic and has a lot of detail which can be missed unless viewing him close up, whoever sculpted him at FW needs a hobby high five!<br />
<br />
Until Alpharius drops later this year, I will be using Dynat as my force leader.<br />

Things are going well so far, I have 18 standard marines, 5 melta am da dreadnought fully painted. In WIP I have 5 heavy bolters and the missing 2 tacticals.<br />
<br />
I’m quite confident I will have a playable force together ready for the new year, things are progressing quickly now. I should also have a post up soon about the progress of the Hive Volantis table, I have it fully built in the garage and as soon as the new lighting is up I will do a few glamour shots of the whole thing!<br />

For years I have been basing my miniatures in a desert scheme but when it came to terrain, I made industrial/urban terrain, go figure. I decided to change that and finally get some sand on the table.<br />
<br />
I used the last of my remaining polystyrene packing sheets and put together four sections. Each section was basecoated with a sand/filler/pva slurry and then painted over with yellow ochre. I have given it a burnt umber brown wash and next up will be the fun part, weathering and foliage! I'm going to use my new pigment powders to make a suitable arid dust (hopefully) and filling the craters with some sort of toxic liquid.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivQ_boVuJxUOPoracMA6eEsIBrToKmqdVN5WEZ51zkoTFvrP-C7zLg6y_egR2UEJgVStG1ZFjf6K-d5t4ZPn_NfUyiEkZpVD2zEVIn-OxPUIorhP69D8N2iNTsyE-qjesaqbelMJZY8po/s1600/IMG_4186.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivQ_boVuJxUOPoracMA6eEsIBrToKmqdVN5WEZ51zkoTFvrP-C7zLg6y_egR2UEJgVStG1ZFjf6K-d5t4ZPn_NfUyiEkZpVD2zEVIn-OxPUIorhP69D8N2iNTsyE-qjesaqbelMJZY8po/s640/IMG_4186.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Ash Wastes of Volantis. I like the colour at the moment and could leave it here but I want to push it and add that extra level.</div>
<br />
<br />
I wanted to be able to mix this terrain with my Hive Volantis terrain as well so I have also started on two joining sections. Each is a terrace accessible by a stairway, the bottom section will be based in the ash wastes sand scheme and the top/walls in the underhive rockcrete grey of Volantis. I also took the opportunity to add some sewer type openings (one of them appears to have had something 'escape' which will be clearer with paint)<br />
<br />
Look for another post in the next couple of weeks when it's finished. (Next weekend will be busy but also includes a trip to Mecca, or its official name, Warhammer World!)<br />

An early WIP showing how the terraces will marry up to the Hive sections</div>

It dawned on me that in the early years of modelling, most modellers used artists materials to do most of their work anyway and so I decided to buy a couple of different 100g bags to see if the colours would be usable.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoLTOliMB_9JbVir21wjpT7BA5xuavsxUCwM-XoWfftbs4ct9Q26-bZpSI5rncBvgqUJvvDwZlJI18Vum05Gh_45pkeDIO6BYBTvL3AcMkEYgT6z45e4QPq1-_YOcZHxzyITK9_SyoF9I/s1600/IMG_4178.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="886" data-original-width="1080" height="327" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoLTOliMB_9JbVir21wjpT7BA5xuavsxUCwM-XoWfftbs4ct9Q26-bZpSI5rncBvgqUJvvDwZlJI18Vum05Gh_45pkeDIO6BYBTvL3AcMkEYgT6z45e4QPq1-_YOcZHxzyITK9_SyoF9I/s400/IMG_4178.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is less than half a bag in a jar, compared to a pot of commercially available weathering pigments.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3dWbFAcQk-p5vOJnjnk3zAI5fqeQdXZAiUMHo4NkOd1knCsPAmbY4xBzPyyU01Ib_0ZY0gylkZtkLpHpL8_Pvy_BnLWvZVxT97I9AHXpvztbonPlOKwgsjdwtyNz2jrMKws8HXnmCSEs/s1600/IMG_4169.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3dWbFAcQk-p5vOJnjnk3zAI5fqeQdXZAiUMHo4NkOd1knCsPAmbY4xBzPyyU01Ib_0ZY0gylkZtkLpHpL8_Pvy_BnLWvZVxT97I9AHXpvztbonPlOKwgsjdwtyNz2jrMKws8HXnmCSEs/s640/IMG_4169.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My bags of pigment have arrived and I am quite pleased that I took the punt, they are definitely what I was hoping for. I purchased a yellow oxide, red oxide, raw sienna and burnt sienna as these seemed the most usable at this stage. I also decided to drop by The Range and pick up some jars, at £1 each they were perfect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSgoXQUPAGD8uNqQDdhCX-Wxj1q2kYikEDCdo6x5_Ja3hBkyNC8BAkBws8d0HB9mKzv_Cjjb0lUTR5Iv3T4aNQ5pehRvIC8p8gw82ZK_B5-IkVwGzW-ygcOF_Itkyvk6oPvw53649IrKE/s1600/IMG_4175.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSgoXQUPAGD8uNqQDdhCX-Wxj1q2kYikEDCdo6x5_Ja3hBkyNC8BAkBws8d0HB9mKzv_Cjjb0lUTR5Iv3T4aNQ5pehRvIC8p8gw82ZK_B5-IkVwGzW-ygcOF_Itkyvk6oPvw53649IrKE/s640/IMG_4175.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0SHktmc1u3Mmbn51gNM52ADjWNGFHOnFKup5hymQGkqyH_vkVG7Ri1yrWgtLm7vEJgAi1QD_K_aPhv_-x2qFsGLs69O7d8IcFQ8mqQoflwdcckQaYQDJ9hYyzIrwKiz2PhZCMFmLVj3U/s1600/IMG_4178.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="886" data-original-width="1080" height="525" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0SHktmc1u3Mmbn51gNM52ADjWNGFHOnFKup5hymQGkqyH_vkVG7Ri1yrWgtLm7vEJgAi1QD_K_aPhv_-x2qFsGLs69O7d8IcFQ8mqQoflwdcckQaYQDJ9hYyzIrwKiz2PhZCMFmLVj3U/s640/IMG_4178.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The next step now that I have bottled them will be to do some mixing experiments to try and match some of the more common commercially available pigments. At £8 I think I did quite well, there is about half a bag of each pigment left after bottling them up so I should have a fairly long lasting supply here. I'll do another post when I get round to trying my hand at some mixology.<br />
<br />
I may be late to the party here but If you use weathering powders regularly, I would strongly suggest looking into bulk pigments if you don't already.Bronislaw Czevakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13131576857246059881noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2904061055438535072.post-37789828536907356372017-08-01T23:10:00.000+01:002017-08-01T23:10:30.362+01:00Ordo Chronos - Heavy WIPanother work in progress member of the Chronos warband, the heavy weapon specialist. I think the catachan/chaos warrior bare arms work well with the scion torso, I also added some plumes to the helmets of each of the henchmen in the warband as I think it adds something extra, previously missing.<br />
<br />
Another 2-3 henchmen to go and then I'll get started on the inquisitor (I decided to downgrade the other guy to the emissary of the band)<br />

The newest member is probably going to end up being the Inquisitor rather than the specialist at this rate, I'm starting to like him more and more. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I binned the Auto Pistol and swapped it for a more esoteric wrist mounted option, I also made a small mace/cane type affair for his now freehand to wield. The tank on his back will provide both air supply and house the equipment power and control units.<br /><div>

<br />
For some time now (See what I did there) I have wanted to explore the Ordo Chronos, very enigmatic and obscure providing plenty of scope for artistic licence. The very idea of an Ordo which monitors the passage of time during warp travel gives so many opportunities.<br />
<br />
The two fellows below are very WIP, this is the basic structure of the two. I am going to be adding more detail via green stuff and plenty of trinckets, mixing old and new. The plan for the warband is to make it around 6 strong including the inquisitor.<br />
<br />
I chose to mix the smash helmets (Sicarian Ruststalker heads) with the lower half of a scion helmet. The apparatus in the smash helmets is said to contain all manner of chronological measuring and viewing devices, better enabling the inquisitor and his henchmen and women to study and manipulate time itself. I see them as being gear heavy and prepared for any situation, past or present.<br />
<br />
More detail,in the background has already been added, we just need the Inquisitor to reappear in the current timeline before it can be shared, for now:<br />
<br />

Mainly just the old GW set and some bits from the AT-43 starter set I picked up a while ago.<br />
<br />
These have been undercoated and should see paint before the weekend. I also have enough bits to build a few movable corrugated steel fences as well, to create some random los blocking pieces.<br />

I will probably come back to it at a later date and add a few more embellishments (I'm running low on junk bits)<br />
<br />
I'm happy with the addition of the vegetation to my somewhat 'grey' scenery boards, so much that I am going back over the previous boards and adding some new pieces. I'm not just going to add vegetation to the previous boards but I am also going to add some line of sight blockers as well, the one failing I have noticed during game-play is that they are very open in the center.<br />
<br />
I have included a few pictures at the bottom of one of the 'upgraded' board sections, the gate. The primary reason for upgrading this one first is that the Agri quarter is designed to marry up to this piece.<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

<br />
I have been looking at other boards (Thistles in particular!) and realised I am missing something, vegetation! I ordered a bulk load of bits from eBay to add some flora to the board and decided to knock up a new tile especially.<br />
<br />
I designed it to marry up with the gate board piece, with the notion that any Agri industry would be a prized commodity. The three trees represent some of the most valuable assets within the hive and are nurtured within great brass Agri Domes.<br />

This model was a bit of a journey and one of the biggest I have done in a long while, but I learnt some new techniques and I think I got a result I'm very happy with.<br />
<br />
The bulk of the hours were spent on the skin, I knew I wanted a sinewy look to the muscle so I thought outside the box a little and settled for painting individual lines of sinew. I think I achieved the look I wanted, especially as a he detail is not sculpted in.<br />
<br />
I hope you guys like him, he marks the start of a new 8th edition army so watch out for updates.<br />

The base coat was laid down with Mephiston Red, washed with Nuln Oil and I am now in the process of repainting the sinew with Mephiston Red. I'm doing this in lines to try and keep the look of the muscles. Hopefully this stage will be done by the end of the week and I can spend the weekend highlighting.<br />
<br />
Aside from being a pig to gap fill, I love this miniature. The canine aspect really suits a Daemon of Khorne! The base is very early (As you can tell) just getting the basic layout in and when Samus is ready I'll get the rest done.<br />

I'm stoked at how it came out, I tried a new technique with the nmm and I'm happy with the results for a first try, probably shouldn't have tried it on this but hey ho! I got the sword to a point I'm happy with as well (pun intended :D) He is now taking pride of place in my cabinet, ready to lead a primarch and a legion. The legion in question that I have chosen is the enigmatic and elusive Alpha Legion. I picked up the Calth box and after some deliberation, decided not to go with long time favourites, Dark Angels. Once I have pieced together the first combat squad, I'll post some pictures up.<br />

I tried a couple of times to get back into 40k proper but always found the myriad special rules and codices to be very overwhelming. With the recent campaign of the Warhammer blog team over the past few weeks, they have got me suckered back in. The promise of all (or most) of a units rules and weapon profiles in its unit entry, the single faction index books and the much simpler gameplay, I'm in! I'll be preordering this weekend and getting some sort of army in motion.<br />
<br />
That army will be..... drum roll.... Daemons of Khorne!<br />
<br />
Leading my host as a daemon prince will be Samus. I'm going to pick up the Khorne starter box along with the ore order. The good thing about playing daemons is that I can also use them in the odd Inquisimunda campaign too.<br />
<br />
Stay tuned.<br />

<br />
'Mad Rachael' Underhive Enforcer<br />
<br />
Growing up in the sumps of Volantis an orphan, Rachael drifted for a time. Going from township to township (As the settlements in the sump wastes were know) she would explore and scavenge, selling her finds in the sectors travelling archeo markets. The archeo markets would buy up all the scrap tech and curios salvaged from the wastes and trade them upspire for a profit. Living this kind of life meant that conflict came often, as competing salvagers tried to snatch her goods.<br />
<br />
Eventually she would leave the salvage life behind, each time she had to defend her stash, she began to enjoy the violence more and started to sell her skills instead. Being a mercenary for hire or an enforcer for the local gangs paid better throne anyway. Rachael started to gain a certain notoriety, the kind of gossip between friends over a cloudy jug of Rotgut, rumours about mutilation and unnecessary force. People really started talking when her victims started turning up with missing body parts, whispers about ear necklaces and such, that's when people started calling her 'Mad Rachael' (Just don't use that name to her face, you might lose an ear!)<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A snazzy video compilation of the campaign</div>
<br />
<br />
The final installment centers around the defending cell holding the Alpha (Skarn's cell in this instance), Preparing to deliver the Alpha back to their master. The defender would be set up in the center of the table and have to hold off the attacking forces long enough to prepare the lander and depart the decrepit hive.<br />
<br />
Both cells were deployed, Ebon in the center and Corvus deploying to the edge of the landing pad.<br />
<br />
As Skarn's forces arrayed in a protective ring around the Alpha, a thumping metallic clank could be heard, gradullay moving closer.<br />
<br />
Corvus started to move Cell Iga into a strong position, with the intention of snatching the Alpha from under Ebon's nose.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nKeAUvvsb80/WPvbou8dLuI/AAAAAAAADBk/mBYszyIgH2QPLQK2jOu1zk8DpWAyK9nXACPcB/s1600/IMG_1115.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nKeAUvvsb80/WPvbou8dLuI/AAAAAAAADBk/mBYszyIgH2QPLQK2jOu1zk8DpWAyK9nXACPcB/s640/IMG_1115.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hanzo & Yasu stalk into position</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Cell Skarn stood their ground, in anticipation of the impending attack. A showdy form hove into view, from the opposite side of the landing pad. Bursting from the shadows, Patriarch Bragi, of the House Stuhn stood, indomitable and looking for blood.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EIsZ6M1AcVw/WPvbohhYGII/AAAAAAAADBk/m_xuG8oiI-olzdrYPbGPwzh4C_B0R_uIACPcB/s1600/IMG_1111.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EIsZ6M1AcVw/WPvbohhYGII/AAAAAAAADBk/m_xuG8oiI-olzdrYPbGPwzh4C_B0R_uIACPcB/s640/IMG_1111.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Skarn & Bragi's heated exchange</div>
<br />
A heated exchange erupted between Skarn and Bragi, it seems that Ebon's cell had taken someone elses property. After a brief to and fro, something about who had more skulls than the other and who would be adding who's skull to their pile, Slab lost his patience and let rip with his rapid fire Plasma Cannon!<br />
<br />
The whote ball of Plasma found its target and erupted around Bragi, destroying him utterly in one fell hit (Not exactly how the GM had planned it!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AQFfcNqb5rw/WPvboh0uFpI/AAAAAAAADBk/v78WUxoKqxIEvoSlLazH4bnomdbD47pLQCPcB/s1600/IMG_1112.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AQFfcNqb5rw/WPvboh0uFpI/AAAAAAAADBk/v78WUxoKqxIEvoSlLazH4bnomdbD47pLQCPcB/s640/IMG_1112.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Slab downs Bragi! (And himself apparantly!)</div>
<br />
Content to sit and watch Skarn and Bragi's henchmen destroy each other, Corvus held Cell Iga back and awaited the outcome.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fdX5gB0wCVk/WPvbot_5-dI/AAAAAAAADBk/Yk8kU_1Q3OUppYV-DsaV-Hvs0mnuCnszgCPcB/s1600/IMG_1114.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fdX5gB0wCVk/WPvbot_5-dI/AAAAAAAADBk/Yk8kU_1Q3OUppYV-DsaV-Hvs0mnuCnszgCPcB/s640/IMG_1114.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hebdon & Junko grab some popcorn and enjoy the bloodbath!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Bragi's henchmen returned fire, managing to down Nebo with a grenade. The bezerker brute with the two handed chain axe launched forwards in an attempt to close ground. At this perceived challenge, Lorexia immediately sprinted forward to meet the mad man, with a bloody exchange ensuing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j7Kb1XvdHMI/WPvbokTkM_I/AAAAAAAADBk/CmCj5QfCgGoMJQDDCgzNWwC89Xudh3YpACPcB/s1600/IMG_1113.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j7Kb1XvdHMI/WPvbokTkM_I/AAAAAAAADBk/CmCj5QfCgGoMJQDDCgzNWwC89Xudh3YpACPcB/s640/IMG_1113.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The bezerker charges forward</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Unfortunately for the bezerker, Lorexia proved to be the more skilled opponent and reduced him to a pile of mushy goo on the floor. Somewhere along the line, Slab managed to misfire his Plasma Cannon and down himself.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Lorexia answers the challenge!</div>
<br />
After dealing with Bragi's henchmen, Skarn and Iga's Cell opened a dialogue. Not wishing to be encumbered any further, Skarn decided he no longer needed his prize and negotiated a trade with his radical counterparts.<br />
<br />
Not wishing his hard work to be undone and an easy victory given to Corvus, the GM made him start rolling on the d20 Warp Table. Unfortunatley, other than a few random teleports, Corvus managed to avoid any serious damage and escaped the table with his prize.<br />
<br />
And thus ends the opening saga of <b><i>The Volantis Chronicles</i></b>. I am itching to get another campaign written up (I have even started basing my NPC miniatures in early perpetration, more on those later) WIth the new Warp Tear in the Grim Dark Galaxy of Warhammer 40,000... I can feel some interesting story lines brewing.<br />

<br />
After successfully securing The Alpha, Cell Skarn retreat to their safe house to plan the next move. Hive Volantis is a dangerous place, even more so when you have something that everybody wants.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WFBNhuCVQv4/WP_EIjHc75I/AAAAAAAADCM/6OfD4kOFgboOHrTYS-yki5eLQUD_TmPigCPcB/s1600/IMG_1126.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WFBNhuCVQv4/WP_EIjHc75I/AAAAAAAADCM/6OfD4kOFgboOHrTYS-yki5eLQUD_TmPigCPcB/s640/IMG_1126.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<b>Game 2</b><br />
<br />
The second mission of the campaign is all about preparation, the sector must be secured in order for Cell Skarn to refuel their lander and move The Alpha off planet. Its time for an exfil strategy.<br />
<br />
Each cell was given a secret objective that must be completed at all costs. (The objectives were purposefully located close to each other to provoke conflict between the two gangs)<br />
<br />
<b>Attacker Objective</b> - To destroy the generator complex (x3) in order to disable comms and security systems. If the objective is met, the Cell receives a bonus in the final game. (In order to destroy the generators, a single ganger must engage it in CC. The generator has a toughness value and armour save)<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<b>Defender Objective</b> - To repair the comms relay systems. If the objective is met, the cell receives a bonus in the final game. (In order to repair the uplink, a ganger must spend a full turn in base contact without being attacked)<br />
<br />
<br />
Corvus won the roll for initiative and took the first turn, quickly moving Cell Iga toward the objective.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7cQ5-fXJRxs/WPvbovKRB-I/AAAAAAAADBk/lDiZ5rm-LyoViU7arriVxONVQFO7oyXPQCPcB/s1600/IMG_1107.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7cQ5-fXJRxs/WPvbovKRB-I/AAAAAAAADBk/lDiZ5rm-LyoViU7arriVxONVQFO7oyXPQCPcB/s640/IMG_1107.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Juno and Yasu head toward the objective zone.</div>
<br />
Ebon, unsure of Corvus objective, concentrated on moving his cell toward his own.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XdNdaY9wISA/WPvboliEN0I/AAAAAAAADBk/-IASZ0GzOpU3zDoxq6kDgME2DkZf4tnsgCPcB/s1600/IMG_1106.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XdNdaY9wISA/WPvboliEN0I/AAAAAAAADBk/-IASZ0GzOpU3zDoxq6kDgME2DkZf4tnsgCPcB/s640/IMG_1106.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cell Skarn deploys.</div>
<br />
Corvus managed to reach the first of his objectives quickly and set about disabling the first generator (Ebon immediately guessed his opponents objective at this point). Yasu engaged the first generator and destroyed it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RG8L9P6UcEE/WPvbouYtAII/AAAAAAAADBk/40vQpdXirsMahy2XA1HoRIfVGOyX8WgpACPcB/s1600/IMG_1108.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RG8L9P6UcEE/WPvbouYtAII/AAAAAAAADBk/40vQpdXirsMahy2XA1HoRIfVGOyX8WgpACPcB/s640/IMG_1108.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hebdon and Junko stalk forward, toward the objective.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u1I52WnEbMs/WPvbojClciI/AAAAAAAADBk/i3kA7AnvpWwKKeW3_r_D4FNzsV5e3tLNwCPcB/s1600/IMG_1109.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u1I52WnEbMs/WPvbojClciI/AAAAAAAADBk/i3kA7AnvpWwKKeW3_r_D4FNzsV5e3tLNwCPcB/s640/IMG_1109.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Skarn, Nebo and Divinicus move in to engage Cell Iga.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Ebon move Cell Skarn forward, placing Lorexia forward in an attempt to disrupt Cell Iga's activities. Corvus ignored the imediate threat and moved Yasu to the second genrator, ready to destroy it. Ebon ignored his objective at this point and engaged the enemy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VAD4MIlOkdw/WP_E3k230vI/AAAAAAAADCc/dpfVHNVHfI4PPFIVG8i3B8fJwweJHN7jwCPcB/s1600/IMG_1127.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VAD4MIlOkdw/WP_E3k230vI/AAAAAAAADCc/dpfVHNVHfI4PPFIVG8i3B8fJwweJHN7jwCPcB/s640/IMG_1127.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ignoring the threat of Lorexia, Yasu pursues the second generator.</div>
<br />
Dvinicus and Nebo had moved up toward the rear of the generators, Divinicus fired his Rad Cleanser at Yasu. Yasu went down but the resultant blast from the cleanser also took out the second generator, leaving just one left.<br />
<br />
Corvus moved Hebdon and Junko forward and opened fire on Lorexia, failing to wound but managing to pin her at least for now. Nasu and Hanzo moved forward from the other side of the watch tower.<br />
<br />
Ebon saw his opportunity and opened fire with Nebo, managing to pin Hanzo but failing to wound. He put Divinicus to work and let loose with the Rad Cleanser, hoping to down Hebdon and force a bottle check, this as it turns out, was a massive error! Failing to hit and being forced to roll scatter for his template weapon, Divinicus managed to hit himself and Nebo with the tempremental device. Divinicus failed his armour save and took himself out of action, Nebo also failed his armour save (And being stood on a ledge) also failed his fall check. Nebo slammed to the ground in the pit beside him and caused another unsaved wound, downing him. With 2 fighters down by his own weapons, Ebon forced a bottle check on himself...... and Failed! Game over man, game over.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G0P4s5hGBuo/WPvbomcqDRI/AAAAAAAADBk/nq3CJ4jrTj0hAdreH1dCV26cByGnQNo7ACPcB/s1600/IMG_1110.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G0P4s5hGBuo/WPvbomcqDRI/AAAAAAAADBk/nq3CJ4jrTj0hAdreH1dCV26cByGnQNo7ACPcB/s640/IMG_1110.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The aftermath of Divinicus' Rad Cleanser misfire!</div>
<br />
Conclusion<br />
<br />
Cell Skarn fled back to their safe house to consider their next move. Cell Iga completed their sabotage of the generator complex and secured their bonus fr the next round. This was a much faster game than the second, but much more tense. Both sides engaged but it was Ebons appetite for template weapons that lead to his undoing. Game 3 would decide the overall victor of the campaign, stay tuned for th final installment.<br />

This was my first opportunity to try my hand at GM'ing a game. I set about coming up with an easy to run mini campaign, comprised of 3 scenario's.<br />
<br />
I will be doing a write up of each scenario, this being the first. The other two will follow during the week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8EnSete-CEk/WPvbooHxEXI/AAAAAAAADBk/MglqeVbrXwQ97SlRXJQFdUp-PVeBhpA2QCPcB/s1600/IMG_1121.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8EnSete-CEk/WPvbooHxEXI/AAAAAAAADBk/MglqeVbrXwQ97SlRXJQFdUp-PVeBhpA2QCPcB/s640/IMG_1121.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
An in game shot, featuring non other than Corvus' head (And bald spot☺)</div>
<br />
<br />
The campaign I came up with was centred around locating & securing a feral 'Alpha Level Psyker'. The first game would be the chase to locate the Psyker, the second would be to make preparations for extraction & the third would be to protect the Psyker whilst the transit craft was being prepared.<br />
<br />
I will be the first to admit that during the game, I could have done more to flesh out the story and include more dialogue. Its all good experience however and I am already formulating my next campaign (Which will hopefully reference back to this one for a bit of continuation). Enough prattle from me, on to the first game.<br />
<br />
<b>The Setting</b>:<br />
<br />
<i>Hive Volantis</i> - The Hive is located on <i>Volantis Prime</i>, a backwater planet situated in the <i>Calixis Sector</i>. Once a prosperous and industrious <i>Forge Hive</i>, it's fortunes have waned of late. The Hive and by extension, the planet, are governed by the ruling <i>Spyre Household</i> of <i>Stuhn</i> who have a long lineage which pre dates even the great heresy of the Warmaster.<br />
<br />
<i>Hive Volantis</i> has grown over the centuries, each successive generation and Patriarch building on top of the accomplishments of the last. Each successive layer abandoning yet another sector at the bottom of the Spyre. The lower regions of the Hive are a rabbit warren of filth, decay and insidiousness, rife with crime and heresy as lowly Hivers attempt to earn enough <i>Geld</i> to climb up and out of the Sump.<br />
<br />
<b>Game 1</b> -<i> <b>Locate The Alpha</b></i><br />
<br />
<b>The Mission</b><i> -</i> The objective for both teams was to locate and escort the <i>Alpha Psyker</i> back to their respective safe houses (Or table edges). Each team had access to an <i>Alpha Wave Tracker</i> which would be used at the beginning of each of their turns by rolling a d20 and consulting the GM (Who would in turn check his <i>table of doom!</i>) Depending on the result they would either get a ping location for an Alpha creature, be subjected to some warp manifested mishap, have nothing happen or on a nat20, reveal the Psyker on the table. A ping does not necessarily mean a Psyker, there are other denizens and creatures within the sump which emit Alpha Waves!<br />
<br />
<b>The Gangs -</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sG-1P900LoQ/WPvbov8JTOI/AAAAAAAADBk/AcL3X5FN76cxG0n13mmGcsM52KF-p5ZawCPcB/s1600/IMG_1118.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sG-1P900LoQ/WPvbov8JTOI/AAAAAAAADBk/AcL3X5FN76cxG0n13mmGcsM52KF-p5ZawCPcB/s640/IMG_1118.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(<i>Radical</i>) Cell Iga - (L to R) - Master Nasu Ikono, Hebden, Kamui Iga, Junko & Hanzo</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Ko0bGPZTTk/WPvbovlC7BI/AAAAAAAADBk/qyOXG65H9coPv38-zfCJavSDmPNnpdrhwCPcB/s1600/IMG_1119.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Ko0bGPZTTk/WPvbovlC7BI/AAAAAAAADBk/qyOXG65H9coPv38-zfCJavSDmPNnpdrhwCPcB/s640/IMG_1119.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(<i>Puritan</i>) Cell Skarn - (L to R) Devinicus, Lorexia, Skarn, Nebo & Slab</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>The Turns</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Both sides rolled for initiative to start, Ebon Hammer won the roll and chose to move Cell Skarn forward in search of the Alpha, his first tracker result rewarded him with a ping location to head towards. Similarly, Corvus' first result gave him a ping location to investigate.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Ebon's second turn yielded no fresh data as this time his device returned no results, leaving him to ponder his next move.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kHWigfJPTsM/WPvbokLrB8I/AAAAAAAADBk/p9wUWNgmvZwGMnKG8KdwX8vCB9Nf3bUvgCPcB/s1600/IMG_1101.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kHWigfJPTsM/WPvbokLrB8I/AAAAAAAADBk/p9wUWNgmvZwGMnKG8KdwX8vCB9Nf3bUvgCPcB/s640/IMG_1101.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Skarn leads his cell forward to investigate.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
After moving forward cautiously, Corvus consulted the tracker and rolled for the result, rather unfortunately his tracker attracted some unwanted attention. A creature of the Warp manifested itself behind Yasu and quickly killed him, leaving Cell Iga a man down.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Ebon, after consulting his tracker, moved his cell further forward to investigate yet another location ping, this time attracting a Warp Beast themselves! Ebon managed to avoid any fatalities to Cell Skarn however, and the beast was banished.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Reeling from the sudden loss of Yasu, Corvus resolved himself and returned to the task at hand. Once again consulting his tracker, disaster struck as for a second time, the cursed device attracted the attentions of yet another Warp Beast! appearing this time behind Hebdon and moving in for the kill. The rest of Cell Iga this time moved in to support their comrade, successfully driving the creature off before it could take another life. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-taxDRlPgMso/WPvboleothI/AAAAAAAADBk/W4pC7diZ28Y1CdReiC08xOB7VGFTAO7-ACPcB/s1600/IMG_1100.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-taxDRlPgMso/WPvboleothI/AAAAAAAADBk/W4pC7diZ28Y1CdReiC08xOB7VGFTAO7-ACPcB/s640/IMG_1100.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A Warp Beast stalks up behind Hebdon, but his comrades help drive the beast back into the Immaterium!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The next few turns were uneventful, both Corvus and Ebon regrouped and continued to investigate the abandoned sector of the Hive.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Suddenly, Corvus' tracker gave him the result they were desperately searching for, the Alpha's location was revealed. Flanked by two mysterious Bounty Hunters who were escorting him. Corvus immediately moved Cell Iga toward the location of the Alpha and proceeded to quickly dispatch the Bounty Hunters who would deny him the Psyker. Iga managed to take both Bounty Hunters single handed, dishing out a total of 8 wounds!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bwLf_jtK-lo/WPvbotIDtUI/AAAAAAAADBk/3m0NPrMqPasEUPOARpDx5oQx2km80aDfACPcB/s1600/IMG_1102.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bwLf_jtK-lo/WPvbotIDtUI/AAAAAAAADBk/3m0NPrMqPasEUPOARpDx5oQx2km80aDfACPcB/s640/IMG_1102.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Iga confronts, and kills the Bounty Hunters escorting the Alpha.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cYKwl-TQUDc/WPvbol_sliI/AAAAAAAADBk/LOptHUBYzYMR-LnWsO5t3HzfgqR0PdYNQCPcB/s1600/IMG_1103.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cYKwl-TQUDc/WPvbol_sliI/AAAAAAAADBk/LOptHUBYzYMR-LnWsO5t3HzfgqR0PdYNQCPcB/s640/IMG_1103.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cell Skarn realizes that the Alpha has been located.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Alerted to the sudden appearance of the Alpha, Ebon moved his cell toward the target, looking to steal him away from Cell Iga. What followed was an impromptu dialogue between the two Inquisitors as they questioned each others loyalties and motives. The dialogue ended as abruptly as it started when Ebon launched an attack with Cell Skarn. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Skarn managed to wound Hanzo, who was escorting the Alpha. Suddenly the Alpha went into spasm as his brain reacted to the sudden shock, inadvertently he teleported both himself and Hanzo back toward the landing pad. Slab fired at Nasu with his augmented Plasma Cannon, wounding him 3 times with the volley!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Incensed at this sudden attack, Corvus moved Hebdon, Nasu and Iga forward to retaliate. Hebdon managed to wound Lorexia but the rest of the attacks failed to cause any damage. Corvus then issued a challenge, Iga would fight Lorexia in an honor duel, the victor would take the prize. Ebon gladly accepted and sent forward his champion, for the honor of the cell.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-urjKtwuj7Tw/WPvboj1aUlI/AAAAAAAADBk/jHLTEGWkmA8DqeCLzBBFUwkW9bcwTfIAQCPcB/s1600/IMG_1104.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-urjKtwuj7Tw/WPvboj1aUlI/AAAAAAAADBk/jHLTEGWkmA8DqeCLzBBFUwkW9bcwTfIAQCPcB/s640/IMG_1104.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Iga and Lorexia duel for the prize of the Psyker.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What followed was a brutal back and forth, despite Iga's size and prowess he only managed to cause 1 wound. Lorexia on the other hand managed to chip away, turn by turn she bled Iga, eventually killing him and maintaining the honour of the cell.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Iga, defeated and mortally wounded.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
With Iga now <u>dead</u>, Corvus kept his word and his cell retreated to heal their wounds, leaving Ebon victorious and in control of the Alpha!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Conclusion: </b>All in all, the first game went well. Both players rolled on the injury table to decide the fate of any downed members. Unfortunately for Corvus, his cell leader, Iga, died as a result of his wounds. </div>

<br />
For this one I wanted to try out <i>Oil Weathering</i> for the first time, I think it was a successful first try and I really like the affect of the oils, they definitely changed the overall tone of the ship and it is something I will be trying again in the future.<i> (*Check out my previous post for a link to the tutorial I followed)</i><br />
<br />
For the most part this will be used as a scenery piece but it is tooled up to be usable as a <i>Valkyrie </i>if I get the opportunity!<br />
